How to Combine Between GNOME & KDE Interfaces in Ubuntu (Natty)
First of all this idea came to me because i was suffering from switching with KDE & GNOME Interfaces to have the feature of the both, and i start reading on internet that new Ubuntu 11.04 which support Unity can support the plasma desktop if you tried to install it.
The main features of KDE is Usability & Widget Engine, and the main feature of GNOME is The Drag & Drop and the simple and organized interface.
Let’s Implement It on Your Ubuntu,
Requirements
- Download Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty)
- Download Plasma Desktop from Ubuntu Software Center
plasma-desktop
plasma-scriptengine-python
Configurations
If you don’t want the Plasma Desktop to run on start-up, but rather when you want to use it, you will create a desktop shortcut to launch it quickly.
Attention: If you want start the Plasma Desktop automatically with the system add the Plasma Desktop to the Start-Up Applications in your Ubuntu.
Start Plasma Desktop
Create new launcher using the name ‘Plasma Desktop’ and the command ‘plasma-desktop’ to create a shortcut for starting the Plasma Desktop using your current session.
Closing Plasma Desktop
Create new launcher using the name ‘Close Plasma Desktop’ and the command ‘killall plasma-desktop’ to create a shortcut for exiting and returning you to the regular Ubuntu desktop.
